“There is only one Asamoah Gyan”, Gyan lashes out at “hypocritical” Kotoko fans

Ghana’s all time top scorer Asamoah has branded Asante Kotoko fans as hypocrites after they subjected him to boos over the weekend.

Asamoah Gyan, Legon Cities striker was dubbed on from the bench to replace Hans Kwoffie in the club’s 1-0 loss to Asante Kotoko on Saturday night in the Ghana Premier League.

The former Black Stars striker was booed as he stepped up to take a free kick on the 79th minute.

Taking his turn at the post match conference, the former Sunderland striker did not hold branding the Kotoko fans as hypocrites insisting that there is only one Asamoah Gyan.

”There is only one Asamoah Gyan. They [the fans] can boo, they know they are hypocrites but they know there is only one Asamoah Gyan. There is only one Asamoah Gyan, they can say I am arrogant, I will be arrogant because they know the hard truth. I’m just here to help my team. They should even be thankful I’m in the league. So it is what it is.” Asamoah Gyan said.

Gyan’s relationship with Asante Kotoko fans has soured after the club’s failed attempt to sign him last year. The deal fell through after Kotoko reportedly balked at the $1million fee demanded by Gyan’s representatives.

Gyan has endured a difficult return to the Ghana Premier League since signing for the Royals in November 2020. He is yet to start a Premier League game or contribute a goal or an assist.
